Man hit-and-killed on the N12 Highway

A man, believed to be in his 30s, was killed this morning when he was knocked over by a bakkie on the N12 near the Xavier Road off-ramp in Rifle Range, south of Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find one light motor vehicle in the middle lane of the highway while the bakkie had come to a stop on the side of the road. The body of the man was found lying in front of the light motor vehicle.

Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous fatal injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene.

The driver of the bakkie was assessed and found to have escaped injury.

It is believed that the man had been assisting another driver with his broken down light motor vehicle. The driver of the bakkie apparently failed to notice the man in the road.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
